"Medical Knowledge on Demand"

The MédiMed Story

MédiMed was founded in 1995 by two information technologies and medical researchers with a long working relationship at the Clinical Research Institute of Montreal, a world renowned bio-medical research facility. Their goal was to use their knowledge about health care, human behaviour, and operations research to resolve one of the most urgent problems facing us in the early twenty-first century: the prevention and management of chronic diseases. In fact, with the ageing of the population, the increased incidence of chronic disease, and advances in communications technologies, it is not only necessary but possible for individuals and patients to play a more active role in taking responsibility for their health and health care.

Following years of research and development, MédiMed had an opportunity to produce and test a preliminary version of its content, in 2000 and 2001, as part of an experimental project designed for the Quebec ministry of health and social services in partnership with the Vidéotron Corporation, a major communications concern. Subsequently, MédiMed was invited by the ministry’s science committee to develop its offer to create the electronic gateway to the Quebec health-care system. In late 2006, MédiMed signed an agreement with the Government of Quebec to become the exclusive service provider for health information on the Government’s Portal.
